This transformation of this zero lot house explored the possibility of vertical space within tight sites. The footprint of the original dwelling was maintained and reconfigured with a small first floor addition. The house, including the in-situ concrete seats, was skilfully constructed by Toki Constructions and the joinery was crafted by N & J Joinery. This penthouse apartment is located in the heart of King Street Wharf, Sydney. Reflection was used as a way of connecting the apartment to the city immediately outside. This device works during the day but especially at night, when the city lights reflect around the apartment. This project is another collaboration with N & J Joinery, whose bespoke furniture is exquisitely finished. GPM Building managed the build process through the mine field that is building within a strata building. This project was photo graphed by Tom Ferguson and his great photos are now on the website. The first of 3 dual occupancy sites is now complete. The void, as described in a previous post, is pictured here. The void and stair scoop northern light in to the south facing living rooms. We are working with Charas Constructions to deliver another 2 similar projects. The next is already under construction and utilises internal court yards to draw light deep into the plan as living areas face north for that site.]]>
Days after achieving concept sign off, the client left for an extended overseas trip. Only a few months later the complete refurbishment of this great apartment in the heart of city is now complete. Teaming up with Horizon Habitats and N & J Joinery, this project was delivered with a great eye for detail by the whole team. The project highlights once again that a great project is the outcome of a great client, architect and builder relationship.]]>
The refurbishment of the penthouse in Pymont is now complete. Working within the constraints of the existing building, the entire aparment was given a once over. Working closely with N & J Joinery, every room was provided with custom joinery and furniture including a large outdoor kitchen on the roof terrace.]]>
Well into the construction phase, these 2 Bondi residences tackle the issue of a North facing front yard. A complex section with a void across the stair and kitchen allow the northern sun into the living rooms at the rear.]]>
Working in association with Mark Szczerbicki Design Studio, we prepared an entry for the 27 Smith Street Competition organised by Sydney Living Museum. Our concept was to invert the notion of conventional brick veneer. Beyond the environmental benefits, this idea allows for the inherent beauty of the brick to become the material for the interior. The project is know as Hearth House and it exploits the robustness of the material in dealing with daily family life. Refer to our gallery for the full submission details]]>
