POCKET BAR PUBLISHED IN SMALL BARS BOOK

Pocket Bar Sydney has been featured in ‘Small Bars – Architectural Details’. The book was published by MONSA, a boutique art and architecture publishing house based in Barcelona. To find out more details or to order the book online visit www.monsa.com/en/.

The following is an excerpt from the book describing the project:

Pocket Bar forms part of a new wave of bespoke bars opening in Sydney.

Tucked under an existing apartment building in Darlinghurst, the space is accessed through a wrought-iron gate or a small steel door with no hint of what lies inside.  The atmosphere of the bar is one of relaxed elegance, achieved by utilising found objects and eclectic furniture.  The bar construction is of simple formwork plywood in the form of a bookcase.   The bookcase and glass bar top display a range of unusual wares including old magazines, lost keys and toy soldier figurines.  The built fabric of the space is mostly original with exposed brickwork and timber beams, and a concrete floor which makes no attempt to hide the new services trenches.  A full length mural created by a local Sydney artist fills the Western wall with dynamic imagery, while innovative lighting utilising industrial lamps and bare bulbs adds to the eclectic feel.

Pocket Bar merges Art, Architecture and Lifestyle to create a lively ambience that fosters interaction between its patrons.
